The Miami Dolphins had no second-half comeback magic this week. They were almost completely neutralized on both offense and defense. Getting almost shutout and just having no answers for the Jets at all. The only score from Miami came as the game ended with the jets having nothing to lose.
Dolphins get virtually shut out
With 2:15 left in the game Miami gets one last drive and Jay Cutler puts it in the end zone to Devante Parker with 0 seconds left. It was the only time they had even reached the red zone the entire game. If you take away this last drive from the game the Dolphins would only have 153 yards of passing and 21 yards on the ground. No type of execution on the offensive side of the ball all game long.
Defense was on the field too long
Miami’s Defense was on the field for 36 minutes and 8 seconds. The Jets o-line was able to protect Josh McCown for most of the game only allowing Miami to get 5 QB pressures and 2 sacks. Bryon Maxwell forcing a fumble in the 4th quarter still couldn’t help Miami score. Getting worn down being on the field for more than half the game they allowed the Jets to throw for 233 yards and rush for 103 with 2 touchdowns both in the air and on the ground.
The Desperation kicked in
Already being down 17 points the Dolphins put the ball in the hands of punter Matt Haack, who fakes the punt and tries to get it to Leonte Carroo, He ends up throwing an interception to Terrence Brooks. That set up the Jets final scoring drive letting them go up 20 to 0.
3rd and 4th Down Conversions
The Dolphins went 1 for 12 on 3rd downs. They were also 0-3 on 4th downs. Not continuing drives was their main issue this week. Excluding the last drive, Miami only had 12 1st downs. Each was for the total possessions. That isn’t what the dolphins want at all and do not need. Expect Miami to emphasize this in practice this week and put it to work against the Saints next week in London.
Across the Pond
The Dolphins will travel to London to host the New Orleans Saints at Wembley Stadium. With Drew Brees coming off a 3-touchdown performance against the Panthers the Dolphins will need to tighten up on defense. With the Saints defense not having high appraise the Dolphins offense are expected to do well against them.
