The 8th ranked Florida Gators have started their 2017-2018 basketball season on the right foot. The Florida Gators opened their season against the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs and took care of business. They got their first win of the season in a comfortable 116-74 win. One of the reasons Florida coasted though Gardner-Webb was because of the Rice transfer Egor Koulechov. The Russian native had one of the best games in his career and one of the best debuts in Florida history. While the defense was a little down, the offense was certainly very fun to watch as the Gators were scoring at will shooting 58% and 51.7% from the three-point line.
The starting lineup for the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs against the #8 Florida Gators featured Chris Turner at point guard, David Efianayi at shooting guard, Jamaal Robateau at small forward, DJ Laster at power forward and L’Hassane Niangane at center. The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs had another rough night against a top 25 team in the state of Florida. The Gators completely manhandled the Bulldogs but not all was bad for them. DJ Laster was lead scorer for the Bulldogs as he dropped 19 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double. The freshman Jaheam Cornwell also had a really solid game as he scored 18 points off the bench. David Efianayi also had 13 points with five rebounds. Gardner-Webb will look to rebound as they will take on the UCF Knights next game.
