The Florida Gators have landed another top recruit from the South Florida area. Four-star defensive end Andrew Chatfield has officially signed with the Florida Gators. Dan Mullen and his staff have worked their magic in landing Chatfield, as the Gators didn’t seem like a threat until the end. Chatfield is one of the most underrated recruits and will play a big role in the Florida Gators defense in years to come. Andrew Chatfield is the 17th recruit to sign with the Florida Gators 2018 recruiting class. He is the sixth defensive recruit to join the class with Randy Russell, David Reese, Trey Dean, John Huggins and Amari Burney. Chatfield is also the only defensive lineman in the class.
Who is Andrew Chatfield?
Andrew Chatfield is a four-star defensive end out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. The in-state was a tough get for the Gators, as it had seemed like the Miami Hurricanes were going to land Chatfield. In a short amount of time, the Gators were able to sign him and pursued him to play with his other Heritage teammates Marco Wilson, James Houston IV and Tedarrell Slaton. During his recruiting process, Chatfield received 32 offers from some of the elite programs in the nation. He had offers from Florida, Florida State, LSU Miami, Ohio State and Oklahoma. According to ESPN, Chatfield is the 159th ranked recruit and 17th ranked DE in the country. According to the 247Sports Composite Rakings, Chatfield is the 213th ranked recruit and 13th ranked DE in the country.
Andrew Chatfield is a 6’2” 220 pound defensive end. He might not be biggest recruit in his position but Chatfield might be the quickest. The former Ohio State commit is one of the best pass rusher in the class. He does a great job of getting around lineman and attacking the quarterback. Chatfield draws some similarity to Jacksonville Jaguar and former Gator Dante Fowler. They are about the same height but Chatfield will need to add some weight before stepping on the field. The Florida Gators have just signed a really talented recruit with a good head on his shoulders. Great pick up for the Florida Gators. This is a player Florida’s defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and D-line coach Sal Sunseri will turn into a star.
