September 2nd is the Florida Gators season opener when they travel to Dallas, Texas to play against the Michigan Wolverines in Jerry’s World. While the Florida coaching staff is focused on their season opener, there recruiting staff is still hard at work. The Florida Gators have been the hottest team in the country on the recruiting trail, landing commits like Matt Corral, Jacob Copeland, Amari Burney and JaMarr Chase over the summer. The Gators aren’t even close to being done yet and they are pushing forward on several other top recruits in the 2018 class. Here are three recruits the Florida Gators could land before their season opener against Michigan.
Four-star WR Anthony Schwartz
Anthony Schwartz is a four-star wide receiver out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. The South Florida wide out is the fastest recruit in the country. He is one of the best track and field stars in high school and he has been clocked running a 4.27 40 yard dash. The Gators have been very high on the speedy wide out and have really recruited Schwartz hard. Anthony Schwartz has already announced that Florida is leader and favorites to land him. If Schwartz comes in the class, Florida might need to drop one of their three-star commits to make room for Schwartz. The Under Armour All-American is expected to commit in August and the Florida Gators are the favorites to land Schwartz.
Four-star DE Azeez Ojulari
Azeez Ojulari is one of the top weak-side defensive ends in the country and he is ready to make his commitment. The four-star recruit out of Marietta, Georgia will make his commitment on August 17th at 3pm EST. The Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators are the two schools that are most likely to land Azeez. As of now, the Georgia Bulldogs seems to be the favorite to land the Army All-American but the Gators look like they’re right behind the Dawgs. Azeez Ojulari is the third ranked weak-side defensive end and the25th ranked recruit in the nation according to 247 Sports. If Florida misses out on Ojulari, there’s no reason to panic since they’re in great shape with another DE.
Four-star DE Andrew Chatfield
The Florida Gators have had a lot of recent success in signing recruit out of American Heritage. The Gators don’t have any of their recruits in the class but they could possibly land two in August. Four-star DE Andrew Chatfield recently de-committed from Ohio State and the Gators seem to be the favorites to land him. Chatfield backed off his pledge to the Buckeyes last Monday and the Florida Gators seem to be the school to beat. The Gators only have one DE in the class and want to add another one. Chatfield is the most likely option to fill in that second defensive end spot. Florida is looking at other top American Heritage recruits like Tyson Campbell and Nesta Silvera. Getting Schwartz and Chatfield in the class early could help Florida land both of those top-rated recruits.
