The Florida Gators have been the hottest team on recruiting, landing top ranked recruits in the past couple of weeks. The four-star safety Amari Burney got it rolling for the Gators as he committed on June 1st. Two more four-stars Curtis Dunlap Jr. and Kyle Pitts would also join the class before the big one. The University of Florida also landed five-star QB Matt Corral and everybody lost their minds. Once Corral committed, recruits wanted to join Florida’s class immediately. Florida landed a ton of top ranked offensive recruits like JaMarr Chase, Jacob Copeland and Dameon Pierce. Its great Florida has landed elite offensive recruits but still to get a few defensive recruits. Here are a five defensive recruits that could commit to the Gators soon.
Four-star DE Andrew Chatfield
The Florida Gators currently have one defensive lineman committed to the class in Taylor Upshaw but still need more. The four-star defensive end out of American Heritage, Andrew Chatfield, is one of the most underrated four-star recruits in the country and could make the move to the Swamp. Chatfield recently de-committed from Ohio State and the Gators are the favorites to flip the South Florida defensive end. The Gators have had a lot of success landing kids out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida and Chatfield might be joining a few of his old teammates. One of the Heritage’s top players, Anthony Schwartz, is set to commit this month and the Gators are the favorites to land him. Is Chatfield another American Heritage recruit that could be Florida bound?
Four-star CB Gilbert Frierson
The four-star Miami commit Gilbert Frierson has been committed to the Canes since last February but doesn’t seem to be very solid. The Coral Gables recruit has been looking around at other schools and has expressed a lot of interest in Florida and Georgia. Frierson has come out and said that he will see how the Miami Hurricanes do this season and determine if he wants to a Cane or not. The 6’1” 185 pound corner visited the University of Florida during Friday Night Lights but failed to show up for Miami’s Paradise Camp. With no show at the Paradise Camp, some experts think that a potential flip is possible but that would only occur in the fall as he wants to see his top three schools play this upcoming season.
Four-star DT Nesta Silvera
Another American Heritage recruit and Miami commit that has expressed interest in the Gators is Nesta Silvera. The four-star defensive tackle has been pretty solid to the Canes but has been liking Florida a lot more since his unofficial visit with his teammate Anthony Schwartz. If the Gators are able to land a few of American Heritage recruits, Nesta Silvera could lean towards Florida ways. The Florida coaching staff has been recruiting Silvera very hard and there will be a few Florida commits and players that will also reach out to Nesta about joining the class. Flipping Silvera to the Gators would be huge and it could be a he blow to the Canes. The Gators signed eight former Miami commits in their 2017 class and have already flip one recruit. Could Nesta be the next Miami commit to flip to the Gators?
Four-star CB Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles
When Matt Corral made his commitment to Florida, he started recruiting for the Gators. One of the first recruit he reached out to was four-star cornerback and Nebraska commit Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles. Corral has had a good relationship with the IMG Academy cornerback. Bookie is a top ten corner in the country and one of the most exciting recruits in the country. The Gators have only one cornerback committed in Divaad Wilson but would like to one or two more. Radley-Hiles has said that he is still pretty solid to the Cornhuskers but with Corral recruiting him hard and the potential of a great season for the Gators, Bookie might make his way to Gainesville with his good friend. The Florida Gators are known as “DBU” and getting Brendan Radley-Hiles could make the Florida secondary even scarier.
Four-star S Tyreke Johnson
One of the biggest names that has emerged on Florida’s radar is the Jacksonville safety Tyreke Johnson. The Army All-American has started to look at Florida harder with all of the recent commits. The Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida State Seminoles are the two favorites to land Tyreke Johnson but the Gators are starting make up ground and starting to become more in the mix for the big-time safety. Safety is one of the biggest needs in Florida’s class but they already have three safeties committed. Adding another safety doesn’t sound like a bad idea since he can also play corner. Tyreke Johnson is a top five safety in the 2018 class and could really make an impact on a recruiting class. The Gators 2018 recruiting class is already elite but Tyreke Johnson takes this class to another level.
