Matt Adams had a game to remember and Brandon Phillips came through huge in the 10th inning. Jamie Garcia started the game for the Atlanta Braves and worked through the game with a lead compliments of Matt Adams. This game had plenty of offense with 15 total runs scored. In the end, a base hit up the middle in the bottom of the 10th inning by Brandon Phillips would give the Braves the victory over the Florida Marlins.
This game was a see-saw battle when the Marlins took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. Jamie Garcia was pulled from the game and the Braves bullpen took over. The Marlins seemed to be on cruise control and looked to win the 2nd game of the series and the series win. The Braves rallied late in the game and Braves catcher Tyler Flowers hit a solo homerun as the Braves clawed their way back from a 4 run deficit.
The Braves bats enjoyed hitting in the Atlanta heat and that’s a positive sign as the Summer season is upon us. If anyone has never experienced Summers in the South imagine sticking your face into a pre-heated stove and the relief when you finally close the oven door. That extreme heat is what it feels like out in the middle of the afternoon without shade. The Braves telecast announcers Joe Simpson and Chip Carey both agreed that the heat in Atlanta seems to warm up the bats of the Braves and that was definitely the case in yesterday’s game.
Matt Adams had 4 of the 8 RBIs yesterday and when he wasn’t knocking the ball out of SunTrust Park, he was knocking baseballs off of the walls for doubles. Brandon Phillips just missed a homerun late in the game and had to settle for a double of his own. Luckily Phillips wasn’t done with his pitching performance as he got the key hit to give the Braves the win.
Matt Kemp came on as a relief hitter in the game and despite the worries Kemp was headed to the disabled list, he appeared to be fine. Nick Markakis got the key hit in the bottom of the 9th inning with a base hit that bounced off the first base pad and that brought the Braves fans to their feet. It was an exciting game, and the Braves will send Mike Foltynewicz to the pitching mound today as the Braves look for a series win in Atlanta. GO BRAVES!!!!!
