Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators have flipped another Mississippi State commit. The former Mississippi State head coach has flipped three-star offensive lineman Griffin McDowell. The Peach State lineman was supposed to take an official visit to Louisville but changes his plans once Mullen arrived at his school and offered him a scholarship. McDowell decides to visit the University of Florida this past weekend and committed to the Gators shortly after. Griffin McDowell is the 16th commit to join the Florida Gators recruiting class. He is the tenth offensive recruit to join the class with Emory Jones, Richard Gouraige, Chris Bleich, Dante Lang, Noah Banks, Dameon Pierce, Justin Watkins, Iverson Clement and Kyle Pitts. He is also the fourth offensive line commit with Gouraige, Banks and Bleich.
Who is Griffin McDowell?
Griffin McDowell is a three-star offensive line out of Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia. McDowell is a little bit of a surprise as the Gators offered McDowell late in the process but was still able to land him. His relationship with Dan Mullen and John Hevesy was key during Florida’s short recruitment for McDowell. During his recruiting process, McDowell has received eleven offers from schools like Florida, Indiana, Kansas and Mississippi State. On the 247 Sports Composite, McDowell is the 141st ranked player in the state of Georgia and the 22nd ranked center in the nation. On ESPN, McDowell is the 136th ranked player in the state of Georgia and 100th ranked guard in the nation.
Griffin McDowell is a 6’4” 280 pound interior offensive lineman. McDowell’s ranking isn’t the best but if you turn on his tape, he’s a pretty solid player. He is a big, athletic offensive lineman that fits into Mullen’s offense. McDowell would be a very good pulling guard as he can get into the second level blowing up linebackers. McDowell has played some tackle in high school but he will likely move to guard or center. Mullen needed an interior offensive lineman in Florida’s class and he got one in Griffin McDowell.
