The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 30-12 on Saturday night at Paul Brown Stadium, capturing their first victory of the preseason. The offense as a collective whole gave Chiefs’ fans a lot to be pleased about, especially from its top pick Patrick Mahomes, as well as third round pick Kareem Hunt.
Mahomes “Looks Polished”
Rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes had just stepped into the role of backup behind Alex Smith a week ago and looked polished against the Bengals. Mahomes completed 10 of 14 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed 29 yards on the ground, including a 14-yard scramble. The Chiefs quarterbacks as a whole combined to complete 20 of 28 passes for 194 yards and four touchdowns.
Hunt Dazzles in Chiefs Second Preseason Game
Kareem Hunt, the Chiefs’ third round pick, got a chance to show a lot more of his skill set in the second preseason game. After being limited to one carry and one catch in the opener, Hunt made the most of his opportunity, rushing for 40 yards on eight carries with three receptions for 23 yards. The Chiefs racked up an impressive 231 yards on the ground after only amassing 31 yards against the 49ers.
The Kansas City offense accumulated 401 yards total, all while the defense held the Bengals to just four field goals. Saturday’s game provided a positive outlook on the 2017 season as the team travels to Seattle for the third preseason matchup on August 25th.
