Even though the Florida Gators are having a rough season, they are still one of the top teams on the recruiting trail. The three-star athlete Nigel Bethel Jr. has announced that he has officially committed to the University of Florida. The South Florida native will be the second Northwestern High School recruit to commit to the Gators as Divaad Wilson has been committed to Florida for quite some time. Bethel is the 19th recruit to commit to the Florida Gators 2018 recruiting class.
Who is Nigel Bethel?
Nigel Bethel Jr. is a three-star wide receiver/cornerback out of Miami Northwestern High School in South Florida. Bethel is one of the most athletic recruits in the country and is widely known for his speed and quickness. The three-star athlete is one of the main reasons why the Northwestern Bulls have had a great season. In his recruiting process, Bethel has received 12 offers from some of the top schools in the country and state. Bethel has offers from schools like Florida, Georgia, Miami, Louisville and UCF. When it came down to a decision, Nigel picked the Florida Gators over the Miami Hurricanes and Georgia Bulldogs. On 247 Sports, Bethel is the 117th ranked cornerback in the country and the 208th recruit in Florida. On Scout, Bethel is the 120th ranked cornerback in the country and the 32nd ranked recruit in Florida.
While Bethel might not be the biggest or tallest recruit in the country, he is certainly one of the fastest and most athletic. Nigel Bethel Jr. is a 5’11 and 160 pound athlete that is one of the top playmakers in the country. Florida interim head coach Randy Shannon feels Bethel has the ability to play on their side of the ball at the next level. I could see him playing as a slot receiver due his speed and quickness. He has pretty solid hands and could really create havoc with the ball in his hands. He might not be the highest rated recruit but he is a player that can see the field quickly rather it’s on offense or special teams.
