Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators have landed one of their former offensive commits. Elite 11 and three-star quarterback Anthony Richardson has verbally committed to the Florida Gators. Richardson was originally committed to the Florida Gators early in his recruitment. The Gators was the favorite to land the in-state QB since they offered him a scholarship back on May 17th. With Richardson’s commitment, Florida has the fifth ranked 2020 recruiting class and are third in the SEC. Anthony Richardson is the eighth 2020 recruit to commit to the Florida Gators with Leonard Manuel, Gervon Dexter, Johnnie Brown, Rashad Torrence II, Jaquavion Fraziars, Morven Joseph and Jeremiah Johnson . He is also the fourth offensive recruit to join Florida’s class with Jeremiah Johnson, Leonard Manuel and Jaquavion Fraziars.
Who is Anthony Richardson?
Anthony Richardson is a three-star quarterback out of Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida. The local quarterback has received some national attention early in the recruiting process. The 2020 QB has received seventeen offers from some of the top football programs in the country. Richardson has offers from schools like Boston College, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Virginia Tech. On the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Richardson is the 489th ranked recruit and the 12th ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country. On Rivals, Richardson is the ninth ranked dual-threat QB and the 57th ranked recruit in the state of Florida. Gators quarterback coach Brian Johnson was Richardson’s primary recruiter for Florida. Offensive line coach John Hevesy was the secondary recruiter for the hometown kid.
Anthony Richardson is a 6’4” 220 pound dual-threat quarterback. At the FNL camp, Richardson put on a clinic. The rising 2020 QB showed off his rocket arm and his natural throwing ability. Everybody knew that he was a good runner and could beat teams with his legs but also showed that he could do it with his arm as well. In his sophomore season, Richardson passed for 1,234 yards with ten touchdowns through the air. He also had 77 carries for 470 yards averaging 6.1 yards a carry and thirteen rushing touchdowns. The newest Florida commit will need to continue to improve his passing ability to become a true dual-threat QB.
