Luke Del Rio Sprains MCL
Gators’ fan can finally start breathing normally again. The Florida Gators QB, Luke Del Rio, has suffered a sprained MCL from a low hit by North Texas defensive lineman, Joshua Wheeler, which he was penalized for. North Texas had been hitting the Gators low all day low and this hit was just completely unnecessary. Luke Del Rio has been diagnosed with a MCL sprain in his left knee. That’s a pretty good injury when it comes down to a knee injury. Luke Del Rio was having a below average game versus North Texas without his top target, Antonio Callaway.
Tempers started to flare after that dirty tackle by Joshua Wheeler. Head coach Jim McElwain walked towards midfield and started yelling at the North Texas Mean Green sideline as he was extremely angry about the low hit on his quarterback. The very next play Gators left guard, Martez Ivey, went after a North Texas linebacker and grabbed his facemask during a run. “It got a little gritty after that went down,” Florida left tackle David Sharpe said. Martez Ivey would be ejected from the game after that but, will not be suspended for the first quarter of the Tennessee Volunteers game. Luke Del Rio completed 14 out of 25 passes for 185 yards and a bad interception.
Austin Appleby, Will be the Next Man Up
Assuming Del Rio is not a 100% ready for Tennessee. Graduate transfer, Austin Appleby, will be the next man up for the Florida Gators. Austin Appleby was a former Purdue starting QB. Austin Appleby threw for 2,777 yards with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in 17 games as a Purdue Boilermaker. Appleby went 2/4 for 30 yards and rushed for 5 yards when Austin replaced Del Rio.
Austin Appleby and the Florida Gators will take on their hated rivals the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tennessee. Antonio Callaway will be 100% for that game as last year he scored the game winning touchdown on 4 & 13. The Gators will need to rely heavily on their defense and running game as it will be a heated ballgame. There will be plenty of energy and excitement in this game as the Gators will try to extend their winning streak versus the Volunteers. “You can’t spell Citrus without UT.” –Coach Steve Spurrier. Go Gators!
