The Miami Marlins have officially won the Citrus Series with another one run victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Pitching was the biggest key for the Miami Marlins win as Pablo Lopez did his thing on the mound. The rookie starting pitcher might have just had his best start in his short MLB career. Another contributor to the Marlins win was the bottom of the order. Miami’s top of the order struggled at the plate but did get most of their hits in the bottom of the order.
Tampa Bay Rays
It was another tough loss for the Tampa Bay Rays as they made another ninth inning comeback but fell short. Right-handed pitcher Ryne Stanek got the start for the Tampa Bay Rays. Stanek threw one inning allowing one hit, no runs, one walk and one strikeout. Reliever Ryan Yarbrough got the loss as he pitched four innings allowing two hits, two runs, two walks and three K’s. At the plate, Tampa Bay didn’t do much with only two runs on five hits. Both of Tampa’s runs came off solo home runs. Leadoff hitter Joey Wendle went 2-4 with a solo home run. Ji-Man Choi went 1-4 with a solo blast in the ninth inning. Daniel Robertson went 1-4 with a double and Adeiny Hechavarria went 1-2 with a base knock.
The Miami Marlins are now 2-0 since the MLB All-Star Break with back-to-back wins over the Rays. Rookie right-handed pitcher Pablo Lopez got the start and win for the Miami Marlins. Lopez threw six innings allowing three hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts. Closer Kyle Barraclough got his tenth save of the season. He pitched one inning allowing a home run but striking out two in the bottom of the ninth. The Marlins did a really nice job on the mound but wasn’t as success at the dish. Miami score three runs on seven hits against the Rays. Martin Prado went 2-4 with a RBI double. Cameron Maybin went 1-4 with a solo home run. J.T Realmuto and JT Riddle both went 1-4 with singles to left field.
The Miami Marlins have clinched the series win but will now look to get their first sweep of the season. Rookie right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards will be on the mound for the Miami Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Chris Archer will get the start for the Tampa Bay Rays. You can watch this game on Sunday at 1:10 pm EST on Fox Sports Florida.
