The Miami Marlins have started their two-game series versus the Washington Nationals on a high note. The Fish defeated the Nationals 8-5 in their final week at Marlins Park. Starting pitcher Trevor Richards didn’t have his best stuff but did have some help from his bullpen and offense. Starlin Castro had a big night for the Fish as well as rookie outfielder Lewis Brinson. Peter O’Brien continues to stay hot for the Fish and Jarlin Garcia got his third win of the season as he only pitched 0.1 of an inning.
The Washington Nationals struggled on the mound as they drop the first game of the series to the Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde got the start for the Washington Nationals. Fedde threw 4.1 innings allowing two hits, two runs, four walks and six strikeouts. Relief pitcher Koda Glover got the loss for the Nationals as he pitched one inning allowing two hits, two runs and two walks. At the plate, the Nationals hit well as they scored five runs on seven hits. Third baseman Anthony Rendon went 3-4 with a two-run home run. Rookie outfielder Victor Robles went 2-4 with his first MLB career home run. Ryan Zimmerman went 1-4with a double and Trea Turner also went 1-4 with a RBI.
Flip the M! The Fish are in the win column as they have won two straight games against an N.L. East rival. Rookie right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards got the start for the Miami Marlins. Richards threw five innings allowing five hits, four runs, one walk and six strikeouts. Lefty Adam Conley earned his third save on the year as he pitched one inning allowing no hits, no runs and a K. The Marlins lineup had a good night in the office as they scored eight runs on nine hits. Second baseman Starlin Castro went 2-4 with a double and a solo home run. Rookie Lewis Brinson also went 2-4 with a RBI single. Peter O’Brien went 1-3 with a RBI double and Magneuris Sierra also went 1-3 with a walk and two-run single.
The Miami Marlins will look to complete their first sweep of the season against the Washington Nationals. Rookie right-handed pitcher Jeff Brigham will get the start for the Miami Marlins.
