The Miami Marlins snap a three-game losing streak after knocking off the New York Yankees 9-1. The Fish had a lot of production at the plate and also had great starting pitching for one of their top young arms. J.T. Realmuto made his season debut and has already made an impact on the Marlins lineup. Realmuto started the season off on the DL with a bruised back he suffered in Spring Training. Derek Dietrich and Starlin Castro also continue to stay hot at the plate for the Fish.
New York Yankees
After a 12-1 rout Monday night, the New York Yankees fail to complete the sweep against the Miami Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Masahiro Tanaka got the start and loss for the New York Yankees. Tanaka pitched five innings allowing eight hits, seven runs (six earned), two walks and five strikeouts. The Yankees struggled on the mound Tuesday night and it wasn’t much better for them at the plate. The Yankees only had four hits in the ballgame as the Marlins pitching staff kept them off balance all game. Didi Gregorius went 1-2 with a double and two walks. Gary Sanchez went 1-4 with a base knock and Miguel Andujar went 2-4 with a double and solo home run.
The Miami Marlins bounced back well with a win on Tuesday after getting embarrassed last night. Jarlin Garcia got the start and his first MLB win for the Miami Marlins. Garcia pitched five innings allowing one hit, no runs, five walks and two strikeouts. Tayron Guerrero pitched well out of the bullpen as he threw an inning allowing a hit, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts. At the plate, the Marlins had one of their best performances this season. J.T. Realmuto made his season debut and made a big splash as he went 2-4 with a three-run home run. Starlin Castro went 2-5 with a RBI and scored twice. Derek Dietrich went 2-5 with a RBI. Justin Bour went 1-4 with a walk and Tomas Telis went 2-4 with a RBI single.
The Miami Marlins will take a day off as they’ll be on the road again. The Miami Marlins will take on the Milwaukee Brewers starting Thursday night for a four game series. This will be the first time Miami will play against former Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich, who was traded this past offseason. Left-handed pitcher Dillon Peters will get the start for the Marlins Thursday night. Right-handed pitcher Chase Anderson will be the starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.
