Flip the M! The Miami Marlins finally won a game as they have defeated the Washington Nationals 3-2. The Fish have snapped their four-game losing streak with Friday night’s win. The Marlins beat the Washington Nationals in their first meeting of the 2019 season. Miami’s starting pitcher Caleb Smith was dominate against Washington as he continues to have a good start to the 2019 season. The Marlins offense also started to wake up as they were able to put some runs on the board. In the past two games, the Marlins were shutout in their last two games.
The Washington Nationals start their three-game series against the Marlins with a close 3-2 loss. Right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez got the start and loss for the Washington Nationals. Sanchez threw 5.1 innings allowing five hits, three runs, four walks and six strikeouts. Relief pitcher Joe Ross had a good outing as he pitched two innings allowing one hit, no runs and a K. At the plate, the Washington Nationals didn’t have a good night as they scored two runs on six hits. Third baseman Anthony Rendon went 1-3 with a double and base on ball. Brian Dozier went 1-4 with a solo home run. Victor Robles went 1-3 with a stolen base and Juan Soto went 1-4 with a RBI single.
The Miami Marlins were back in the win column Friday night as they beat one of their division rivals. Left-handed pitcher Caleb Smith got the start and win for the Miami Marlins. Smith threw six innings allowing five hits, one run, no walks and eight strikeouts. Closer Sergio Romo earns the save as he pitched one inning allowing no hits, no runs and a strikeout. The Marlins bats woke up a bit scoring three runs on six hits. Miguel Rojas went 2-4 with a double down the right field line. Starlin Castro went 2-3 with two singles and a walk. Brian Anderson went 1-3 with a base on ball and Isaac Galloway went 1-4 with a RBI.
The Miami Marlins will be back on the diamond Saturday night against the Washington Nationals. The Fish will try to clinch their first series win of the season tomorrow night. Right-handed pitcher Jose Urena will be on the mound for the Miami Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer will get the start for the Washington Nationals.
